Rushanara to fight for Deputy Leadership

Rushanara Ali, the first Bangladeshi origin member of the House of Commons, has become a candidate in the position of Deputy Leader in the Labour Party, the Opposition in the UK parliament. Daniel Hassel, Labour Councilor of the Bromley South ward of the Tower Hamlets Council and Syed Mansur Uddin Shikhon, media adviser of Rushanara Ali have confirmed the news of the candidature of Rushanara to an on line magazine of a TV Channel. Since the landslide defeat of the Labour Party in the UK parliament election on May 7, the labour leader Ed Miliband has resigned from his post and the deputy chief of the party Harriet Harman is now performing her duties as the acting chief of the Labour party. Hariet, however, has declared to yield up her position as the deputy chief of the party. Rushanara Ali, the former shadow education ministry of the Labour Party, has placed her candidature in the deputy chief position of the party. At present the Labour Party is busy with reorganizing the party before the next central election in September. The party faces setback since its worst performance in the recently concluded UK parliamentary election since 1918. Rushanara is going to fight the contest in the deputy leader position by September. She is one of the 100 most influential persons in the UK, according to the Guardian. According to the party rules of the Labour Party, anyone contesting for the position of the ‘leader’ or the ‘deputy leader’ of the party needs support from at least 35 MPs from his or her party. Local political analysts of UK suggest that it will not be a `hard deal’ for Rushanara to get that. Rushanara Ali, born in Bishwanath of Sylhet, is not only the first British-Bengali MP, she is the first Mulim woman MP at UK too along with Shabana Mahmood and Yasmin Qureshi from Pakistan. Rushanara has defeated her closest rival Mathew Smith of the Conservative Party with a takeover of 24,887 votes on the election of May 7. Earlier Rushanara served as the shadow education minister after being elected as MP for the first time in 2010.
