May Day was observed in Sylhet

mayThe historic May Day was observed with a call for establishing just rights, dignity, honour, socio-economic and human rights of the working people through daylong programmes in the Sylhet districts yesterday.

The district administrations, directorate of labour, labour, trade, socio-cultural, political, professional and cultural organisations chalked out daylong programmes at the district and upazila levels in observing the day amid huge enthusiasm and festivity.

The programmes included placing wreaths at the Shaheed Minars, hoisting of the national, labour, organisational flags and red flags, processions,serving improved diets to the workers, holding of discussion meetings,cultural and prize distribution functions.

dozens of processions were organised by some 50 different

organisations of the working people, including women workers, parading the streets since the morning and discussions were arranged at many places in the city.

The district administration along with regional directorate of labour and many workers’ organisations organised colourful rally participated by workers, officials and employees, NGO, socio-cultural and political activists and workers.

Sramik Federation, Jatiya Bidyut Sramik League, BADC Sramik Karmochari

League, Jatiya Rickshaw Van Sramik League, Rupali Bank Sramik League, Sonali Bank Sramik League, Uttara Bank Sramik League, Janata Bank Sramik League brought out colourful processions.

Truck and Tank Lorry Sramik League, Krishi-Farm Sramik Federation,

District Dokan Karmochari Union, WDB Sramik League, Swarno Shilpi Samity,Electronic Sramik Union, Rang-Mistri Nirman Sramik Union, Auto Rickshaw Sramik Oikko Jyote, Restaurant Sramik & Workers’ Union observed the Day.

Karmojibi Nari, District Electric Sramik Kallyan Samobai Samity, District Bakery & Confectionery Sramik-Karmochari Union, District Truck, Tank Lorry & Covered Van Sramik Union, Rangpur Tula Mill Sramik Union and other organisations bought out processions.

Different political parties including Awami League (AL), its front

organisations, Communist Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, Bangladesher

Samajtantrik Dal, Ganotantry Party, Workers’ Party, labour and trade

organisations chalked out separate programmes.

After the processions, thousands of the working people gathered on the

Central Shaheed Minar premises to attend the main discussion.

Dr.Anwar Hossain attended the main discussion as the chief guest. Government and NGO officials, leaders of different workers’ organisations,human rights activists, political leaders, civil society members,professionals, socio-cultural activists and local elite also addressed.
