Ataur Rahman Chowdhury passed away

Chairman of Brick Lane Mosque Committee and prominent community leader Ataur Rahman passed away.  He died in a hospital in East London on 15th April at 5.50 in the afternoon (Inna Lillahi…. Rajiun).  His dead body was then taken Chanvorang village of Bishwanath on 18th April and buried there next to his mother’s grave on the 19th.
Ataur Rahman Chowdhury was sixty eight years old when died and left his wife, four sons and many well-wishers to mourn his death.  Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina has expressed his deep condolence and uttered her sympathy to late Ataur Rahman’s family.
Ataur Rahman Chowdhury is the second son of late Abdul Motlib Chowdhury.  His family house is situated in Baishghor village of Dashghar Union in Bishwanath Upozillai in Sylhet.  His younger brother who is the General Secretary of Sylhet Awami League and former member of Bangladesh Parliament, Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury, has urged all the UK living Bangladeshis to pray for peace for his late brother’s incorporeal soul.
His first Namaje Janaja was held at Brick Lane Mosque. Huge number of people from different walks of life across the UK took part in his janaja.  After taking his body to Sylhet, his Namaje Janaja  was held again in Sylhet Tilagorr Jame Masjid and later in Baishghor in Bishwanath.
Ataur Rahman Chowdhury came to the UK as an adolescent with his family. He played a very important role in organising Bangladesh Independence movement in the UK.  He also organised the movement demanding the justice for the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.  He also acted as General Secretary of Bangladesh Welfare Society.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League and LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam, Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhit, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali and Awami League’s Organising Secretary Advocate Misbah Uddin also expressed their deep condolence in Ataur Rahman Chowdhury’s death.
East London Mosque Committee also expressed their deep condolence at the death of Alhaj Ataur Rahman. East London Mosque Board of Chairman Muhammod Habibur Rahman  and Secretary Ayub Khan said in written statement that people will remember him forever for his hard work and efforts for the development of Brick Lane Mosque.
MP for Bethnal Green and Bow Rushanara Ali has also expressed her deep condolence in his death. On a statement she said that late Ataur Rahman Chowdhury has played a very significant role in the advancement of Bangladeshi community in the UK.  At his death, we all lost a guardian of our community.
Council of Mosque Tower Hamlets also expressed their deep condolence at the death of Ataur Rahman.  A commiseration meeting was held at London Muslim Centre to express the condolence.  Hafeez Maolana Shamsul Haque presided over the meeting and Secretary General Sirajul Islam Hira conducted it.
On a condolence message Bangla  Mirror Editor Abdul Karim Gani said that Ataur Rahaman’s death will create a vacuum in the welfare of our community.  He also prayed for the peace for the incorporeal soul of Ataur Rahman Chowdhury and uttered his sympathy to his grief-stricken family.
