BNP hosts dinner for Cambridge MP

Members of the Bangladesh National Party in Cambridge held a dinner on Thursday 19th March 2015, for Cambridge Liberal Democrat MP, Dr Julian Huppert to support his campaign for re-election in May 2015. Liberal Democrat Councillor for Romsey ward in Cambridge, Catherine Smart and Cambridge Liberal Democrat Chairman, Spencer Haggard were also welcomed as guests.
The buffet style dinner was hosted by the owner and proprietor, Alhaj M A Maleque, at the Curry Queen Restaurant, Mill Road Cambridge.
The MP particularly discussed the worsening human rights situation in Bangladesh. He said,
‘It is quite clear that there are no circumstances where people should be imprisoned for having political views, for people, disappearing people being oppressed for being able to speak. It is really, really important for the people of to have free and fair elections in Bangladesh as soon as possible, everyone can take part in.’
In 2013 Dr Huppert sponsored a motion in the House of Commons – Human Rights in Bangladesh. He has actively supported the campaign for free and fair elections.
Founded in 1978, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party commonly referred to as the BNP, is the mainstream centre-right political party in Bangladesh. It is currently the largest opposition party in the Jatiyo Sangshad, the Parliament of Bangladesh.
