The Labour Party celebrates its diversity

unnamed (5)This week, Labour party politicians, Shadow Cabinet Members, Members of Parliament, Councillors, candidates and supporters came together for a celebration in the heart of the London. The event is organised annually to celebrate the incredible diversity of the Labour Party.

The Labour Party’s candidates for the General Election are the most diverse of any of the main parties put together; with over 50 from BAME communities. In London alone, 70% of Labour’s candidates are women, and 40% are BAME.

More than 400 guests attended the event, which was hosted by Keith Vaz MP. Attendees were addressed by Labour Leader Ed Miliband.
Shadow London Minister & Justice Secretary Sadiq Khan MP said:
“I am really proud to be a part of such a diverse party, and one that celebrates and encourages that diversity. With record numbers of BAME MPs and candidates, only the Labour Party could hold an event like this – we really are a one nation party.

“Labour has a long history of reaching out to, and properly representing Britain’s diverse communities. These votes will be more important than ever before at this general election and we will never take them for granted.

“One of the most important messages we heard was the need to check you are registered to vote. Ethnic minority voters are far less likely to be on the electoral register than other communities.
